['lænzdaʊn], Henry Charles Keith Petty-Fitzmaurice ['petɪ fɪts'mɔrɪs], 5. Marquess of Lansdowne, britischer Politiker, * London 14. 1. 1845, ✝ Newtownanner (bei Clonmel, Irland) 3. 6. 1927; war 1883-88 Generalgouverneur von Kanada, 1888-93 Vizekönig von Indien, 1895-1900 Kriegsminister und 1900-05 Außenminister. In seine Amtszeit fallen die erfolglosen Besprechungen mit Deutschland über die Möglichkeit einer weltpolitischen Verständigung, das britisch-japanische Bündnis von 1902 und die Grundlegung der britisch-französischen Entente cordiale (Entente) durch das Abkommen vom 8. 4. 1904. 1915/16 war Lansdowne noch einmal Minister in der Koalitionsregierung Asquith. 1917 trat er für einen Verständigungsfrieden mit dem Deutschen Reich ein.
